Happy New Year Teachers of Cornerstone!
January 6, 2012
I trust that everyone had a restful holiday with family and friends and is ready for the New Year. There are a few items that I want to update our membership on at this time and hope you take a few minutes to access the items linked in this memo.
We are all anxiously awaiting the 2012-13 Calendar and what changes the Ministry will bring. At this time I can tell you that SECTA and the division have discussed possible options, but we now have to wait and see what comes out of the meetings the Ministry is holding this month with school divisions and the STF. A vocal message has been sent on your behalf about the importance of a winter break. We will be working together to ensure some type of break during the winter months, but it could be different than what we are custom to. I could speculate on possible options, but it would just that until these meetings occur.
In December we held a lengthy Executive meeting to discuss 11 resolutions brought forward by our teachers and to hear updates on LINC and Convention. We also discussed teacher professionalism and burnout. To see the resolutions that the SECTA Executive endorsed and submitted to the STF Resolutions Committee, please open the 2012 Spring Council Resolutions (also on the Forms & Mtg Minutes page). If you would like to know more background information on these resolutions, please speak to your region's Councillor. If you would still like to submit a resolution, the deadline is February 3rd. Meeting minutes for other items discussed at the Dec. 6, 2011 are posted on the Forms & Mtg Minutes page. Due to the public nature of our website, further information on teacher professionalism and initiatives in Education discussion can be accessed from you region's rep or Councillor.
Convention 2012 is seeking a representative from EVERY East Region school. Please contract Darryl Locke if you are interested. This is a great opportunity to ensure Convention is driven by teacher needs.
Please access the LINC letter sent to the SECPSD Board and the SECPSD Board letter of response from your SSL.
Best wishes for a healthy, happy and productive year for you, your family and your classroom.

Convention 2012
December 1, 2011
Planning for Convention 2012 is now underway. Convention responsibilities rotate between the three SECSD regions and the East region will be hosting our 2012 Teachers’ Convention. We need a good group of teachers willing to help organize and host next year’s convention, tentatively planned for Monday November 5th and Tuesday November 6th at the Delta in Regina, pending adoption of next year’s school calendar by the Division Board.
This is your chance to have a voice in your convention.
Any East region teachers interested in helping plan convention 2012 are asked to respond to this All Call with your contact information – name, school, email, and phone & fax numbers. We will likely hold our first meeting in early January.
