What about H1N1 and hand sanitizers?

The school division has a plan ready to put in place in case of an outbreak, however at this point hand sanitizers will not be purchased for schools.  The division has taken its direction directly from our health region and Health Canada's recommendations. Please read more at Health Canada's website if you would like to learn more about H1N1 and how to prevent contraction. The top three recommendations are to wash hands regularly, cough into you arm (not your hand) and stay home if you are sick.

After I reach my 26 hours for noon hour do I receive pay for further supervision?

Yes, you can earn 2 days with 26 hours of noon supervision. After that point you should submit a monthly timecard for pay to be added to your monthly cheque. It is expected that teachers signed up for noon hour supervision will not drop it immediately following 13 or 26 hours, but finish the time block they agreed to with their in school administrator. Some may only have a few noon hours to have paid out after the 13 or 26 threshold and others may supervise the entire year and have many noon hours paid out after the threshold. Keeping your commitment to the time signed up for creates less stress for your principal. There is also the option to earn both EDO’s from extra curr. and receive pay for all noon hour supervision.

Can hours earned from extra- curricular be carried forward to the following school year?

Yes, hours can be carried forward if they are below the one day threshold of 40 hours. The agreement states that one day may be carried forward, therefore it is in the spirit of the agreement to carry forward time that is below that threshold. A maximum of 1 day or 40 hours may be carried forward to the following year. This carry over must be managed at the school level. Another option is to access a 1/2 day EDO instead of carrying hours forward or a combination thereof.

Can an EDO be taken before it is earned?

Yes an EDO may be taken before it is earned with the intent of earning it before the end of the year. This is tracked at the school level. If the EDO is not earned by June, the school must inform the division to deduct this time from the teacher's June salary.

Can you count the hours of a school day or SIP day for extra-curr?

No, you can only count hours outside of the school day. These hours are typically before classes in the am, at noon and after 3:30.
i.e. You have a v-ball tournament away from home requiring hotel stay that begins Friday at 1pm and ends Saturday at 6pm- hours counted would be from 3:30 on Friday until 6pm on Saturday.

If I choose to be paid out for extra-curr hours will this be on a separate cheque?

No, it will be included on your pay cheque and there will be deductions.

When are hours to earn EDO’s submitted from extra- curr and noon supervision?

Hours are kept up to date in a log at the school level throughout the year and submitted in June to the Division.

Can you request pay out of banked legacy hours or hours you have earned in the current year before June?

Generally requests for pay out occur in June, but you can complete the pay out form and submit it in any month for pay out. Your administrator must verify your hours and submit the form.
